A Hero We Won’t Forget: The Aidan Becker Story
It’s a story that makes your blood boil and breaks your heart at the exact same time.
On a Friday afternoon in March 2026, 22-year-old Aidan Becker was just a bloke heading home from work. He was passing through Mernda train station in Melbourne’s outer north when he saw something that didn’t sit right. A 14-year-old schoolboy was being ambushed and robbed by a group of four teenagers.
Most people would look the other way. Most people would keep their heads down, put their earphones in, and pretend it wasn’t happening. But Aidan wasn’t most people. He stepped up. He intervened, picked the young bloke up, and walked him away from the danger.
He did the right thing. He did what we all hope we’d have the guts to do, and what we’d pray someone would do if it were your kid in trouble.
But doing the right thing cost Aidan his life. The group followed them, and in a savage, cowardly attack involving edged weapons, Aidan was fatally stabbed. He died right there at the station, despite the desperate efforts of bystanders to save him.
The 14-year-old boy survived, battered but alive, because Aidan put himself in the firing line.
The Aftermath and the Silence
The community was shattered. Thousands gathered at Mernda station to honour a young man who embodied the true Aussie spirit of looking out for your mates and protecting the vulnerable. Four teenagers - aged 16, 17, 17, and 18 - were charged with murder and armed robbery.
But while the community grieved, the silence from the top was deafening. It took days for Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan to even address the tragedy, and only after being pressed by journalists and slammed by local parents who called the incident “heartbreakingly predictable.”
We’re seeing a terrifying rise in youth crime and knife violence, and the people in charge seem more interested in optics than action. They want the news cycle to move on. They want the outrage to fade. They want this swept under the rug.

Chocky has just released a powerful, gut-wrenching documentary about Aidan. He sat down with Aidan’s parents, Matias and Natalie, and his best mate, Kush. It’s a raw, unfiltered look at the devastation left behind when a good man is taken by senseless violence.
In the doco, Aidan’s dad says it best: “He did the right thing. That is the Australian spirit. To help another, to protect the weak.” But he also admits the agonizing truth... he wishes his son had looked the other way so he could still have him home.
No parent should ever have to feel that pain. No parent should have to bury their kid because the system failed to keep the streets safe.
