How To Grow a Lush Beard

How To Grow a Lush Beard

Growing a beard is a rite of passage for many Aussie blokes. It not only adds a touch of rugged masculinity to your look but can also be a great way to express yourself and show off your personal style - not to mention the ladies love a bit of face fluff.

To grow a beard, the first thing you need to do is put down that razor and let your facial hair grow. Depending on how quickly your hair grows, this can take a few weeks to a few months. During this time, it's important to resist the urge to trim or shape your beard, as this can disrupt the natural growth pattern.

Once you've got some growth going on, it's time to start shaping your beard. Use a good quality trimmer to shape your beard to your desired length and style. A popular style among Aussie blokes is the "stubbly bushranger," which is a short, scruffy beard that gives off a laid-back, outdoorsy vibe.

When it comes to keeping your beard clean, it's important to use a beard shampoo and conditioner. Regular shampoo can be too harsh for your beard, causing it to become dry and brittle. Be sure to rinse thoroughly and dry your beard off after washing to avoid any skin irritation.

Moisturizing your beard is also important to keep it healthy and soft. Use a beard oil or balm to hydrate your beard and prevent itchiness and flakiness. A good beard oil will also give your beard a pleasant scent and make it look shiny and well-groomed.

Finally, remember that growing a beard takes time and patience. Don't get discouraged if it's not coming in as quickly as you'd like. Just keep taking care of it, and soon enough, you'll have a full and healthy beard to show off. So, go ahead and embrace your inner bushranger, mate!

BEARD FAQ's & TOP TIPS:

What’s the perfect beard length?

Many men wear their beards at varying lengths, from a bit of stubble to a long length, duck dynasty style. The ideal length depends on your style, genetics, and grooming habits. But to play devil’s advocate:

  • A stubble beard, typically 1-3mm long, works great for those with large, round faces.
  • A short beard, 3-5mm, works best for those with even facial growth. Patchy facial hair will showcase the gaps.
  • Longer beards are best for those with solid facial hair growth. You can also use long hair to enhance facial proportions. Long hair can elongate the chin, or fill out the face.

Whatever length you choose, make sure your beard is tailored and neat. Use your trimmers every few days, rinse your beard with water or shampoo, and condition the hair daily with moisturizer or beard oil. Visit your barber every 2 weeks to tidy up strays and clean up your beard line.

Is facial hair growth based on genetics?

Adult men typically have thousands of beard hairs. The number of hair follicles is determined at birth, by genetics. Some ethnicities like men from the Far East (China, Japan) have less beard hair which mainly grows around the mouth.

How fast does a beard grow?

The average beard growth rate is 0.27 mm per 24 hours, (but this can vary between individuals). Hair growth is not a continuous never-ending process but occurs over a natural hair growth cycle which includes a growing phase, a resting phase and a phase where the hair will fall out to make place for a new hair.

Is it possible to increase how fast my beard grows?

Your overall health affects everything, including your beard. You can’t alter your genetics, but there are lifestyle habits that may make you healthier and help you achieve a fuller beard quicker. Exercise, sleep, diet, and vitamin supplements can all help overall health and in turn, increase beard growth. A common myth is shaving will increase growth speed and hair thickness - this is NOT TRUE.

Why wash my beard every day?

The skin has sebum glands which are connected to the hair follicle. They naturally produce an oily substance (called ‘sebum’), which travels to the surface of the skin via the hair shaft. It is very important to daily cleanse the beard hair and skin underneath to prevent them from becoming too oily, feeling dirty and smelling bad.

Is beard wash important?

The skin is often compared to a wall made of bricks and mortar, which protects us from the environment. Healthy skin continuously renews itself and daily sheds some of the outer dead skin cells as part of this natural exfoliation process. Those skin ‘flakes’ can get trapped into the beard – a great reason to give those whiskers a daily wash.

Do beard oils really work?

Yes. Beard oil works by moisturizing the skin under your beard which greatly improves hair health and regeneration. Our beard oil helps maintain moisture and prevent protein loss to ensure that your facial hair, and skin, stay hydrated, nourished, and protected.
