30 Day Challenges Are Better Than Resolutions

30 Day Challenges Are Better Than Resolutions

Did you know that recent research shows 80% of New Years resolutions fail? To be fair, from our experience that’s not really surprising at all.

Here’s a fresh take for you. Forget the resolution and commit to a 30-day challenge. Fitness, clean eating, reducing stress, or spending time with the kids – doesn’t really matter what it is. Can you do it for 30 days?

It’s not actually about those 30 days. The goal is once you’ve made a commitment to anything for a month there is a much higher likelihood that it might turn into a consistent habit post-challenge. It might not be at the same intensity as the challenge itself, but if you carry over some aspects of it to the rest of the year, you’re in a better place than having botched another New Years resolution.

Go to the App Store and you’ll find literally hundreds of apps with the ’30 day challenge’ in the title. Pick one that tickles your fancy, and stick it out for the month and see what happens. Getting through January is a lot less of a commitment than ‘the rest of your life’.

So, why is a 30-Day Challenge more likely to work?

The idea of a fresh start is appealing: People are 14% more likely to visit a gym at the beginning of the month.

That's how long it takes to make it a habit: Everyone is a little different here, but habits can form in just 18 days. It might be 30, it might be 60, but once you’re on the challenge having frameworks helps you get through the hard bit.

It streamlines the goal-setting process: By following a plan you’re not accountable for figuring out what you have to do. You can focus on putting in the work and getting it done.
