We wanted to talk to you blokes about a little somethin' somethin' we all experience - post-nut decision making. Yeah, we know it sounds a bit odd, but bear with us.
As men, we've all been in situations where we're stuck tryna make a decision or solve a problem, and it's just not clicking. It's like our brains are all foggy and we can't think straight. But have you ever noticed that after a bit of “hand to hand combat”, everything becomes clear as day? Suddenly, the solution to that work problem comes to mind, or you know exactly what to say to your missus to sort things out.
Honestly, there hasn't been many studies into this topic so the jury is still out (probably having a bat). What studies have shown is that after ‘knocking the top off’, men experience a rush of feel-good chemicals like dopamine and oxytocin. These hormones help to reduce stress and anxiety, which can in turn improve decision-making abilities... so it might be a stretch to call it a medical fix but having a bit of alone time can't hurt.
Sex. Not so much the act itself, but when making the beast with two backs is on the cards your mind is more focussed on the emotional acts with our limbic system.
Will it happen? What do I need to do to make it happen? All questions clouding your ability to focus on whatever other thoughts you were trying to process. All of a sudden when the deed is done, that immediate 'clarity' is a result of no longer chasing the bedroom rodeo and reverting to a standard mindset.
Let's face it, us blokes don't always have the luxury of taking time off or going on fancy retreats to reset. Now, we’re not saying you should be ‘filling the belly-button’ every five minutes just to make decisions, but if you find yourself struggling to make a tough call or feeling overwhelmed, taking some time for yourself may just be the key to finding clarity.
Be sure to head over to the Blokes Advice Facebook Group (Blokes only, sorry gals) and share in some laughs with 270K other Aussie guys who share your humour.
Maybe you need a little more than a laugh? Blokes Advice is also a platform to connect blokes to talk about the tougher things in life. Check out our Seeking Help page for more information on making yourself a happier and better you.
